Some help with Melena hair???Question about tapering

I really like Melena overall, because it's easy to make guides and apply Syflex. In this example I have guides driving another pointcloud to create filler strands, and each "clump" you see is where each guide strand is. I'm trying to get the ends of each clump to taper to a point, but there doesn't ...

Re: Kristinka Hair 3.0 released

What do you do when you need the character to be moved from 0,0 when using your Syflex setup? The hair gets dragged behind and then snaps violently into place after frame 0. Is there a way to move the global transform on your character and allow the hair to go with it? This way when you start to ani...

Re: Best Version of Softimage?

Software is the only product people will tolerate being crappy, and hoping maybe the developers by some miracle can deliver one version that won't drive you insane. I think 2013 sp1 was that version.

Re: Cached particle sims won't read properly

I think its a frame padding issue now that I try a few things. First, I can't change the frame padding in the caching. If I add ### inside the [frame], it won't number the frames at all. Since I can only seem to write cache files with no padding (the default), I'll set the scene frames to no padding...

Re: Cached particle sims won't read properly

Can anyone uses caches on a regular basis with success describe what you do to make it work? I might have to render a 1080p animation with one computer.

Re: Caching particles randomly works

Maybe a dumb question...do simulation absolutely need to be cached to render properly on a farm? If yes, then I have to render this animation on one computer because I've already spent at least 6 extra hours trying to make this work.

Re: Caching particles randomly works

I dealt with this issue again today for about 3 hours. Softimage being killed by Autodesk will not make me switch to another software, but I seriously considered it today because of this particle problem. It's really insidious times 10. Anyway, using the cache manager made it work properly. 100% Ac...

Re: Kristinka Hair Tests

I set up everything again because I didn't like the way the hair was laying, and figured out what I did wrong the first time (the root twisting problem)... I didn't realize the main emitter needed to be static. I removed the Gatored envelope and it worked correctly with nice, straight roots. The onl...

Seems to be holding up fine so far, but I'll reference your last post if something goes wrong. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/48138877/hairtest02.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/48138877/hairtest.jpg By the way, what's the difference between the grouping and clumping nodes? I seem to ge...

Re: Kristinka Hair Tests

I'm using the Syflex tutorial to make a Kristinka wig, and all has gone well -- but only when the character model is static. In the top part of the pic, you'll see the roots are neat and aligned nicely. In the bottom part, I have the head rotated slightly and the roots start to twist and other part...

Re: Caching particles randomly works

Arggghhhh this is driving me crazy. I have another scene that every time I load it, the cached particles aren't visible. Then I re-write the cache and it can read again. Does someone have a final solution to this problem? I spend hours messing with particles trying to make them work properly. So muc...

Re: Drawing a strand between every particle for wireframe effect

If strandwire still doesn't work, you could try one of two in attachment. One spreads just a particle cylinder primitives (or any else primitive), so you have a real preview in viewport. Another creates strands. Usually these things are searching for point neighbors, then points are cloned and plac...

Re: Drawing a strand between every particle for wireframe effect

The "Strandwire Compound" comes to mind. AFAIK currently only available in the local backup over at rray.de I'm afraid... I have that compound, but it doesn't work. Lots of red nodes when hooking it up. Strange, now it works for me. I may have done something wrong yesterday. This is prefect for wha...
