The extended life of Softimage..a question
I'm still using Softimage because I just GET THINGS DONE when using it. I know it inside and out and I feel like I'm using a paintbrush. I've been learning Blender here and there over the past couple years and have made it to the point where I could see myself starting a real project for a paying cl...

Re: RETIREMENT Q&A
Just to confirm....hopefully someone smarter than myself about these things can help: I now have a USB dongle and license file (created with registeronce) and Softimage is currently running just fine with that. Over the weekend I'll be building my new Ryzen 3900x system and will need to get Softimag...

Re: RETIREMENT Q&A
I can confirm it works. I bought an ASUS usb wifi adapter this morning. I used registeronce to generate my new license file. Used LMtools to stop the service. Used configure tab to point to the new license file. restarted service in the LMtools panel. Ran Softimage and it worked. So now when I nuke ...

Re: RETIREMENT Q&A
Thanks for that info. Will buy USB adapter today.
One more question....when installing XSI on network nodes, would the installer read the dongle on my main workstation as the new license info?

Re: RETIREMENT Q&A
Do you have a network license? If so: look here ... (creating your own "dongle"!) If you are using a 2010 version or older of Softimage I'd advise you to hurry. AD stops issuing licenses for that generation at the end of August. But if it's a more recent version, registeronce should still...

Re: RETIREMENT Q&A
has anyone recently changed computer gear and reactivated Softimage on the Autodesk site? I was able to do it a couple of years ago. Before I wipe everything I want to make sure I'll still be able to generate a license file. If not..is anyone using a cracked version? It wouldn't be outside of ethica...

Re: Kristinka Hair 3.0 released
Mathaeus...any insight on why stick to mesh extrusion will leave some hairs behind (especially in the back)? I've gone through the process so many times but it never comes out like your sample file where every strand is attached to the syflex polys.

Re: Particle caching does not work most of the time
Thanks...I don't have 2015 and was going to try Alembic in 2014 sp2(my version) based on your post. I don't care about the speed as long as it works. But, your suggestion gave me idea that never entered my mind before. I tried using a Redshift proxy sequence for my particles with instance objects at...

Particle caching does not work most of the time
This subject has been talked about several times around here over the years, but I'd like to see if we can get another discussion going about the best practices to follow when saving and loading particle caches. It's so unreliable. Sometimes it works...sometimes it doesn't, no matter what method I u...

Ice particles fall through collision object
Can anyone please, please, please tell me how to ensure that no particles fall through the collide object when simulating? It never seems to work fully. Some collide while other pass through. What is the magic setting to make sure they do what they're supposed to?

Some help with Melena hair???Question about tapering
I really like Melena overall, because it's easy to make guides and apply Syflex. In this example I have guides driving another pointcloud to create filler strands, and each "clump" you see is where each guide strand is. I'm trying to get the ends of each clump to taper to a point, but ther...

Re: Kristinka Hair 3.0 released
What do you do when you need the character to be moved from 0,0 when using your Syflex setup? The hair gets dragged behind and then snaps violently into place after frame 0. Is there a way to move the global transform on your character and allow the hair to go with it? This way when you start to ani...

Re: Best Version of Softimage?
Software is the only product people will tolerate being crappy, and hoping maybe the developers by some miracle can deliver one version that won't drive you insane. I think 2013 sp1 was that version.

Re: Cached particle sims won't read properly
I think its a frame padding issue now that I try a few things. First, I can't change the frame padding in the caching. If I add ### inside the [frame], it won't number the frames at all. Since I can only seem to write cache files with no padding (the default), I'll set the scene frames to no padding...

Re: Cached particle sims won't read properly
Can anyone uses caches on a regular basis with success describe what you do to make it work? I might have to render a 1080p animation with one computer.

Re: Caching particles randomly works
Maybe a dumb question...do simulation absolutely need to be cached to render properly on a farm? If yes, then I have to render this animation on one computer because I've already spent at least 6 extra hours trying to make this work.
