Re: Windows 8
I have always had an eye on the Lenovo convertible tablets but never pulled the trigger on one. Good to know that there are going to be more options out there. Once a bunch of them hit retail I am going to try to make a list of which one has what kind of digitizer and whether they are pressure sensi...

Re: Windows 8
Sold.
I do hope it has pressure sensitivity, or at least the capability of using a special pen to enable it. But the accuracy is huge - I hate drawing on the iPad.

Re: Windows 8
I guess I'll have to dig a little deeper to see what those other enhancements to Win8 are, haven't had the time. I am with you on the Win8 Pro version of the tablet - that is beginning to look appealing. As an iPad owner who wants to do a little more with a tablet device I like the prospect of ditch...

Re: Windows 8
What I am concerned with is the lack of information about OS improvements relating to professional computing, specifically DCC applications. With past Windows releases we would hear about new file systems, 64-bit architecture, etc. This time around all the noise is about the UI. I am not concerned w...

Re: Recreate perspective from 2D image
There is a free plugin for Maya on Creative Crash called Sanctus Match Camera located here: http://www.creativecrash.com/maya/downloads/scripts-plugins/camera/c/sanctusmatchcamera . Is this what you're after? You might be able to use some of what is there it or contact the author to make a XSI versi...

Re: A good monitor to buy?
I use Eizo monitors (have owned 3) and have been really happy with them. Excellent build quality, terrific color, and very highly rated online(for whatever that's worth). Unfortunately they do cost a bit (and it looks like they might be out of your range) but color accuracy is priceless and so are y...

Re: CCMESH and PTex in Softimage 2013
At the risk of going even further OT I saw this recently and thought of you: http://www.opensubdiv.com/ . Here is a synopsis from the Pixar site: OpenSubdiv is a set of open source libraries that implement high performance subdivision surface (subdiv) evaluation on massively parallel CPU and GPU arc...

I think I have taken it a bit off topic..sorry about that!
Just got a bit caught up in my own issue with UV smoothing and took it there. My bad,

Re: CCMESH and PTex in Softimage 2013
Just for completeness I am cutting a pasting the way Renderman handles Catmull-Clark Subdivision Surfaces (from the 3D Delight User Guide). Mental Ray has all these capabilites but they are not supported properly in Maya. Maybe you can bring the proper implementation to Softimage with your work: 5.3...

Re: CCMESH and PTex in Softimage 2013
Excellent work - you nailed it. A good way to tag would be to have a modified selection tool where you can select a vert, edge, face to apply the crease to and then MMB (or some hotkey combo) drag to set a value between 0-1. I would love to see what happens to UVs in certain scenarios and would be h...

Re: CCMESH and PTex
One more thing..I brought this up on the Nvidia Mental Images forum here: http://forum.mentalimages.com/showthread.php?9522-UV-Smoothing-With-Subdivision-Approximation Their replies were what I thought - MR supports tagging as per the links you just posted but it is not integrated in Maya (Not sure ...

Re: CCMESH and PTex
Hi Daniel, Thanks for the reply! My knowledge on this is in Softimage is limited as well but it has been something I have always followed the progress of as I am a modeler/texture artist. This was brought up before here: http://www.si-community.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2389 but the dis...

Re: CCMESH and PTex
The 'corner feature' would be great to control. I *ahem* use Maya a lot to render and the lack of control over UV border smoothing for verts with a valence of two is something that has always bugged me. I don't think you can control that in Softimage either, right? It is a Mental Ray feature that is...
