Re: Nice to be using Softimage again. But where is everyone now?

Hi,
Reading here every weeks ;-) But never touch XSI from 2015, I'm in Houdini far ALL type of work, it's super fluid for everything, from UE realtime render jobs to VFX Arnold ones. I'm pleased to be on a not abandoned wagon and with happy and pleased customer, that change everything.

Re: Silo is alive

you're right I meant Lightwave ;-)
At the time when LW was killed (devs gone... .. yup another DDC killed in my life) I tested many alternatives like this one Silo+Messiah Studio, good combo ;-)
Silo had this go straight feeling just like LW modeler

Re: wParallax and Softmage

Of course that's my shader tree, as you can see you just need to get the camera vector, and as far as I remember you can get that even in MR

Re: Make XSI remembered forever

Well, why not adding an Unreal section, blueprint Niagara and shader graph are directly inspired by XSI/ICE no ? Why not adding an Houdini section too ? After all it's the logic and beloved path for 90% of old ICE users... Wait, why not adding a section for blender nodes ? that's a true legit ICE ch...

Silo is alive

Incredible, after so many years.
I always considered Silo as a LW Modeler Continuity (we always tought modo was it but that was not the case)

Re: wParallax and Softmage

The maths behind that are actually very simple, I've sucessfully translated it to UE4 (you can find the math in multiple place on the web)
I assume you can do it in XSI if you can get the camera data in the shadertree

I don't saw that... but while it's cool it's useless I think

Re: Need a plugin developed

Hey,
Let's face it... this tool is so easy to built in Houdini, deforming by points, or uv or whatever.
Anyways... isn't just a deform by point built in softimage ?

Re: Windows 10 Professional or Home???

tarkovsky wrote: 09 Oct 2020, 20:45 I think by far, the worst issue about Home is, that you risk your computer rebooting and updating in the middle of a render. Even though its not simple, you can (almost) turn automatic updates off on pro.
In personally always use LTSC versions, no updates and more important no upgrades !

Re: Houdini 18.5 sneak peek

Awesome software but 10 years to learn it ;) That's not true, our team nailed it in some month for replacing XSI, Jordy Bares does some fucking great job to ease it. Just use the same renderer you used to, it's the same thing ! One the other side, "FX" side of houdini wasn't in XSI, true ...

Humm, look at the new attribute editor in 2015.
Possibly you're exporting too much of them, there was a big change on that side.
Personally I never see that performance drop and the 2015 update was a very cool one on the ICE side of things

for shader building maybe but for the rest it must be top bottom just like a shematic view, always top bottom, we can't shift your mind like that when switching between obj and geometry ;-)
