Re: 3ds Max Indie available worldwide

Agree! I was a Lightwave user who was looking for something more ‘capable’ and along cane ‘XSI 4 Foundation’ for the bargain price of £150 ... it would have been stupid not to give it a go!

Re: 3ds Max Indie available worldwide

I was wondering if the unpopular 'subscription model' may come to bite Autodesk in the arse during this lockdown ...... I know of a lot of 'creatives' that have stopped their monthly rental payments (Adobe/Autodesk) whilst they have no work! That being said ... I don't think Autodesk have ever been ...

Re: 3ds Max Indie available worldwide

It's especially a risk with Autodesk .... very low trust level from users! (anyone remember 'Softimages future is bright'?)

What are you seeing in your downloads?

All I can see is 'Maya with Softimage 2016' which is what's been there for ages! No mention of 2016.5 or Extension 2!

Re: Migration to MAYA - Service Packs

Has anyone experienced any progress with this? I am at a good, 'inbetween projects' stage at the moment, where I could upgrade all my software to the latest versions! I have raised a support ticket with Autodesk regarding the issue of 'Maya (2016 Ext 2) with Softimage' access and also whether the ne...

Re: "Cheap" animation course?

It took around an hour for my email to arrive.

I'm not sure if it's fully automated or whether someone (Keith?) sends the email 'manually'

Re: Autodesk going all rental?

I think what Autodesk are missing here is the fact that Adobe got away with forcing their users to a rental-only model because they have very niche products with little competition. After Effects for example, there just isn't a competing product out there for motion graphics and compositing. 3D soft...

Re: Coping with the "depression"

I guess the sections make sense now, but in 1 year they are obsolete. In case this may become a multi-software forum, there is the need to treat all packages equally. But this is really up to the ones who run this forum. I get your point, but I don't fully agree! We are not all going to be transiti...

Re: Coping with the "depression"

How about a new forum section called 'Transitioning' with sections titled 'Maya', 'Houdini', 'Modo' etc.? In these new forums people could discuss the software they are trying out or transitioning to, giving their opinions and asking questions from a Softimage users point of view! I for one would fi...

Re: Coping with the "depression"

While everybody's obviously allowed to have their personal likes and dislikes and act upon them, I find it somewhat puzzling that we (users & employees alike) didn't abandon Autodesk/Softimage at a much earlier date, as most of this was known in one way or another in the past as well. Funny asi...

Re: Open Letter To Carl Bass, President and CEO of Autodesk

Anyway, that's rather close to what you will get the for the next two years : just life support. Some would argue that's pretty much what we've had the past 5 years :( Autodesk said they are phasing out softimage because they don't want to have 3 apps that do the same thing. So, as suspected, they ...

Re: Subscription fees increase?

As far as I'm concerned we should get a drop in subscription, for 2 reasons; 1) the high priced 'gold' subscription we have been forced to pay since the acquisition, due to no 'silver' option being made available (another ploy to deter new users as far as I'm concerned), which has been ploughed into...

Re: Autodesk retires Softimage

When you look at the 'new' features of Maya 2015 you can see just how slow Autodesk development is :(

There is no way they are going to have Maya ready to replace Softimage in 5 years, and yet they are killing it in 2!

I'd better get back to my Houdini tutorials! ;)

Re: Autodesk retires Softimage

I suppose we should wait and see what version 1 of Bifrost can offer before completely ignoring Maya. I'm just not that hopeful :((

Haven't Autodesk normally posted up a few 'sneak peeks' of upcoming versions by now? Strange we've seen nothing yet!
