HoudiniEngine release!

Just posting this here because I was joking around about a SI version and this is what was posted:

HoudiniEngine CGTalk Announcement
We do have some former Softimage developers on staff but they are busy working on Houdini itself ;-)

Re: New MoI beta

Yeah, I've been on it since the first beta. Great little gem for the toolset. One of the best meshers for the price. The touch/multi-touch support is really nice too.

Re: No ICE for foreseeable future except in Houdini and...

So what? Three unrelated facts you point on should give a clue that KL can be compiled for GPU? In current state - it can not. You may have more information than I have, but I'm simply repeating what they've already said publicly. They may be hosting a GTC session explaining how they couldnt get it...

Re: No ICE for foreseeable future except in Houdini and...

What would you say to being able to run your KL code on the GPU!? I would say that you won't be able to run KL code on standard PCI bus dependant GPUs, afaik they're official partners of HSA foundation, their existing code can be able to run on APUs only, which means (in terms of use of graphics pr...

Re: No ICE for foreseeable future except in Houdini and...

You're not reading those attributes, you're computing them. You hit the nail on the head with "you're", because you tell Fabric what it needs to do. Fabric or really KL, is just simple data types (bool, string, integer, float), everything is built up from that. Even the tools (which are j...

Re: Softimage 2015 missing?

Max users are furious man...even the fan boys are tripping...because ADSK said "no plans to EOL Max"...but its clear that Max days are numbered too. If you need any further proof, look at the release notes for Mudbox 2015.

I'll post Part 2 tomorrow after work about how to setup a scene.

EDIT: There's a bug in the video. You want to install TortoiseHg instead of Mercurial.

Re: Mitsuba Exporter

Nope, no AOV's. The output format is XML. Mitsuba can also be interacted with via Python, as it exposes a Python API that's almost a 1:1 mapping to the C++ codebase. I was busy testing the new RedShift renderer [which is REALLY great btw]. But, now I'm back working on Mitsuba. RedShift dropped 32bit...

Re: Mitsuba Exporter

Since both Vertex Colors and Texture Coordinates are in the Sample space, I got UV's for free! :D

Re: Materials & Polygons

Well, another thing I was considering is just using ICE Materials instead of the clusters. Using ICE, it would be super easy and fast. I'd know how many materials are involved and there is a per-polygon MaterialID attribute to read. But, I havent played with that yet to see how its visualized. Clust...

Re: Materials & Polygons

Wouldn't that be the list of polygon ids minus the ids of the ones in the clusters with a local material? Yeah, that's what I came up with too. But, I was scared the performance would be horrible. EDIT: I'm gonna check to see how LuXSI does it. EDIT2: LuXSI doesnt support multi-material either! Rat...

Materials & Polygons

How do you determine which material a polygon uses? For instance, say I have a grid with two clusters on it. There's 3 materials: The object material, and 1 material per cluster. Now, I can tell which polygons are in each cluster by the elements property, but is there a easy way to determine which p...
