Superb! The interface reminds me of Kai's Power Tools.

Re: RETIREMENT Q&A
I'm really confused about this. I am deeply saddened that Autodesk have canned Softimage. However I want to keep on using it, long after 2016. I accept that I will probably have to start learning Maya or Max in the meantime but I definitely still want to keep on using Softimage, even if it's eventua...

Re: 3D WILL NEVER BE THE SAME
Oliver,
this is a great idea!
Softimage/XSI (I've been using it for over a decade) completely changed the way I work. I am a huge Soft' evangelist and continue to spread the good word.
I'll try to put together a coherent story and send it over...

Re: Houdini Engine
This is absolutely amazing! Effectively you have Houdini procedurally driven assets within other applications! You could create similar effects to those shown in the video in ICE but having Houdini share it's technology between different applications is great! Interesting times...

New Lagoa - render in a browser!
Thiago Costa (and others) has been busy again! This time they have created a browser based rendering solution - you actually use his cloud based renderfarm in a browser window! No hardware, no software at you end! I've only just started playing with it but the potential is amazing; imports obj's, ap...

Re: Autodesk Labs - Project Pinocchio
Great find - thanks!
Unfortunately I've just tried one and the FBX import repeated fails at 6% in Softimage 2013.
Has anyone else had success with this?

Re: Another 3dsmax sneak peak
What we need is someone more intelligent than me (not hard!) to write an addon that uses ICE Crowds under the hood but shows this level of simplicity to the user.

Re: Another 3dsmax sneak peak
I know Soft can do ICE Crowds and I'm not a huge fan of Max but I am loving the simplicity of this!

Re: Dirt/sand in Lagoa - noob question
Matic, thank for a very full and enlightening response. I think you're right, some of the particles are caught mid simulation and then when they try to catch up they are imparted with a huge force. I've increased the sub frame sampling and this seems to have improved things a little. I'm still playi...

Re: Dirt/sand in Lagoa - noob question
thanks for the reply. I have decreased the resolution but other than having more, smaller particles, they have much the same 'bouncy' effect. I'll try increasing the substeps and see if that helps. I know the 'dirt' looks pretty simplistic now but I was hoping to run quick experiments with this simp...

Re: Dirt/sand in Lagoa - noob question
Good idea! here's a quick screen grab. As I say, I'm starting simple (very simple!) and hoping to scale up once I've got the hang of things. Even in this screen grab you can see the particles flying off as the bounce off the bucket. http://www.richardosborn.com/xsi/lagoa/Lagoa-test_03_061211_screen....

Dirt/sand in Lagoa - noob question
Hi guys, first topic and it's a bit of a noob one, I'm afraid! I'm trying to create the effect of a crane's bucket scooping up some dirt (dry, granular mud) and I'm having real problems with the bucket's collision. I'm starting simple and have done a variation of the sample Lagoa scene (Lagoa_Inelas...

Reinhard, thanks for the new version - downloading now...
Rob, I used a similar method with jellybeans a while ago (although I bet you could use ICE now!?), it worked a treat. RCtools really speeded things up!
