Re: MMO Wildstar
We're evaluating our options. Autodesk won't drop support until 2016, so we're not rushing to make a decision.

We also use Modo (modeling and UVs) and 3D Coat (for retopo). Also, the very first cinematic was produced by Blur (although they too use Softimage). All the following ones were produced in house.Draise wrote:"They used the same tool I use for all of this!

Re: Modo 801 Release
Another Dorito setup in Modo. This one doesn't require a Wrap deformer.

Re: Strands?
Sorry. Used to use Cinema 4D years ago. After much frustration, stopped renewing my license. Cinema 4D is excellent software for some things. Game development is not one of those things. No big deal. Can't please everyone and it makes sense to cater your software to your core audience.

I've found trying to explain game dev workflow to Cinema 4D users pretty much a lost cause. They'll tell you to bake from high to low you just need to use similar UV layouts on your low and high. I should never, ever, under any circumstances have to UV my high poly to bake normals. In the other thre...

Re: why not cinema 4d?
Not sure how useful retopo is in an application that still can't bake between arbitrary meshes. For instance, you can't take a high poly with no UV's and bake to a low poly with UV's. Maxon has never quite understood game artist workflows.

well... the resulting mesh is pretty good !!! if you click on their bottom right gallery item here and look at the wires http://groboto.com/showgallery/ so, more or less, like Power Booleans for Max - and.... by courtesy of AD, Maya and Maya LT , too :) If Power Booleans had user-definable bevels a...

Re: Softimage 2014
So Support got it sorted and everything is fine now. They said it was a "refresh" error so not all costumers got the downloads automatically. Cool. That boosts confidence in Autodesk online services. Still waiting here (and my reseller has been bugging them). I'll probably have a "re...

Re: Cinema 4d r15?
Most artists at my company have switched over to 3D Coat for 3D painting. Bodypaint (C4D) displays a limited number of colors compared to other 3D paint apps (Mudbox, 3D Coat, Modo, and MARI), which gives you terrible color banding issues in the display (although not on your actual textures). Apply ...

Re: Maya BonusTools 2013 - UV Tools
I just want to UNFOLD3D.com, there is a link to the xsi plugin which takes you off to "softimage.com" and you end up at Autodesk. So did Autodesk buy it out? Will Autodesk do the updates? Will Unfold3d do them? Will it get updated? Or is it like the Shave and Haircut, frozen in time??? No...

.3ds was the file format for 3D Studio for DOS. It was replaced in 1996 with the release of 3d Studio Max 1.0. As far as I know, it's hardly ever used anymore (at least in my industry).

A missing apostrophe? Big deal. It's the people who don't know the difference between "loose" and "lose" that drive me bonkers. 90% of the time it's native speakers making that error.
