Re: What Software to use for animation short (or intro to)

I called it silly because i shared a personal view on Softimage for a specific scenario and he acted like i said "Softimage sucks, Max rules ftw!". In fact i went out of my way not to say that. And the only reason i mentioned i felt it was too TD was in response to your answer "use wh...

Re: What Software to use for animation short (or intro to)

Pff i am so not getting into that silly argument with you Bullit. How about letting this thread get back on topic so it will be of use to someone.

CG forums need another "appwars" or "i hate autodesk" thread like they need a hole in the head.

Re: What Software to use for animation short (or intro to)

Well i hope my posts were not causing too much offense and i don't want get into some heated argument here but i think the people that say you don't need TD skills to get around in Softimage are wrong. Fact is you do. I've hit my head against the wall with simple things that didn't work right out of...

Re: What Software to use for animation short (or intro to)

Ah "notes" is maybe the wrong term, im just curious how someone else goes about drawing a storyboard, planning out shots, blocking animation - that sort of thing. The facial stuff you're planning sounds very interesting for instance. I guess mine is for fun, i have a day job but im hoping/...

Re: What Software to use for animation short (or intro to)

Yeah the main problem with decisions like this is that you only really know what's right when youve taken the plunge, started your project and hit a brick wall ;) Hey you got a blog or something? Id be curious to see how someone else progresses on this. Apart from the software side the project manag...

Re: What Software to use for animation short (or intro to)

If there's a point to posting that vid it's lost on me... But just to repeat something i posted earlier: i dont think the Softimage has no future, i just think it's future is more on the TD/Houdini like. Or better put: that's the direction AD is taking it in. So for a lot of people on here i think i...

Re: What Software to use for animation short (or intro to)

Well im in sort of the same boat - except im not really interested in a studio position - and have recently decided just what Luc suggested: im switching to 3ds max. Wich was not an easy desicion for me after loving Si and investing considerable time and money in it. But it's just to TD for me, i so...

Re: Need Help getting started with 3Delight...

Hey thanks for the tips i will try them out! I'm currently reading James Gurney's Color and Light to learn more about well light and color ;) Gonna try and mix my painting studies with studies in lighting with 3Delight. Tonight's experiment: getting a cast shadow to go from hard to soft in a pleasin...

Re: Need Help getting started with 3Delight...

Ah well yeah i found that fix - i linked it in my first post - i just didn't know how to implement it. But now thanks to you i know i need to edit the .sl file in the rsl folder of 3delight. Nice one ;) Oh and yeah i copied the .sl first. It works but i wouldn't exactly call it fast... I think i pre...

Re: Need Help getting started with 3Delight...

Hi Anto, thanks for replying. Right so you're not supposed to edit shaders huh? Well since my knowledge is way too limited i shan't bother with that then... I read your 3delight tests thread and i thought you talked about "hacking" shaders - but in a quick search i only see you import cust...

Need Help getting started with 3Delight...

Very much related to my thread about "artistic lighting" i am trying out 3Delight. I must say the speed and the look and feel of it blows me away - i really think this the type of renderer i need for my NPR desires, now if only i understood it's workflow... I'm already stuck on two things:...

Re: Deform by Curve "on the fly"?

Update: just got an email back from the developer - the plugin was made for 2012 and there are possible problems with 2013 due to SDK changes. Unfortunately he won't be able to update till next spring.

Re: Why is bending so difficult in SI?!

Well in the example in my first post i tried a shrink wrap but it was to rigid to get the shape i was going for, but it was perhaps a bad example. The thing i just keep running into is that when i just want get some cool curved shaped shapes to my meshes during modeling i try things like deform by c...
